Strong Subtlety

I love this watch. I purchased the watch with the blacked out look (black dials, black bezel, black numbers, black strap). It feels like how a big watch should feel – heavy but not overwhelming. The strap is very comfortable and was quite a surprise. I am not a connoisseur of watches, but I do know that this watch was exactly what I wanted.

This is a MAN’s watch. Anything else is just a watch.

The packaging and presentation was also impressive. The watch came in a large wooden box. That was a nice touch.

The glass is a lot more reflective than the photograph displayed shows.

Overall I love it. It’s understated, subtle, not ostentatious but somehow…powerful.

Great looking LARGE and HEAVY Watch

Really ice looking over sized watch. I’m very pleased with it. I do have smaller wrists so it is a bit too big and heavy. Not an every day watch but great in my rotation.

Great watch but for small woman… not unisex!!!

I am 5’8″ and 165 lbs… not a big guy, but this watch looks like a toy watch on me. The natural curve of the band isn’t comfortable on my wrist and causes the dial to sit above my wrist. I think it is a solid state item and I would be more than tough enough for me, but it looks disproportionately small on my wrist. Either Chelsea Watches sent me the kiddie version or maybe I have a sensitive ego. I give it 5 stars for quality, but beware that it is smaller than you will expect. By way of comparison, I had the Timex Marathon 8 lap watch and it is smaller than many watches but fits me very well.

A good watch for exercise

I was looking for a digital watch that had a face that wouldn’t catch on clothing, or anything else, and had a rubber (polyurethane) strap that wouldn’t absorb smelly sweat after I went running. This Ironman has fulfilled both of those needs. Unlike my previous digital watch, this face is mid sized and does not snag on the wrists of jackets or on the carrying straps of book bags. The polyurethane wrist strap is smooth on the skin, doesn’t absorb sweat, easy to rinse, and durable. The indiglo light is bright and the watch is easy to read. The watch’s features include: two time zone clock, with options for a 12 or 24 hour time keeping; alarm; a stop watch with splits and 30 lap memory; and a count down clock. All of which are simple and intuitive to program.

This Ironman is a very good watch for general use or for those who need something that can handle the rigors of exercise.

Very nice set for the price

For precision work, this set includes the sizes I need most often. I hesitated to purchase it to begin with due to comments about the cheap case/package, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. I have certainly had very bad cases before and although this one is not perfect, it is good enough for me and I’m fairly picky. What can you expect for just over six bucks?

On a side note, I did notice before opening the box that the bits on 2 of the hex drivers were not completely straight. This is an obvious manufacturing defect and I have contacted Fuller Tools about it to see if they will replace them. While it won’t impede me from using them in the meanwhile, they are bent enough to be a bit annoying for precision work. Yet again, what can you expect for the price? Either way, I believe these are certainly well worth the price that I paid.

Good set for the money

I used this set on some electronics and a few watch screws and it worked well. The only complaint I have is that 2 of the screwdrivers tips came loose while loosening a screw. They are only glued in and when they came loose, the tips would just spin. I pulled them out and used some Loctite, I could use them again in an hour. This set is a good value, but I was a bit disappointed how quickly two of them needed repair.

Update: 3/17/08
I have been using these more than I thought. One further observation is that in simple things like electronics, the work flawlessly. In items where the screws are tighter, I have had the tips come loose and needed to use Loctite to repair them. I even bent a few of the tips and had to hammer them flat again.

For simple uses, these are fine. (For $7, come on!) Just don’t expect to them to be able to withstand excessive punishment.

Good tools, cheep box

These are very inexpensive for the set, but if you need a small screw driver every now and then they are very good. The box is a bit cheap and will not last long, but for now they look good orginized.

The qualtiy of them is good enough for my 3 year old to use the small philips to change the batteries on his toothbrush and toys. They are just the right size if your kids want to help.

No Bling is a Good Thing

I recently purchased through Amazon the Luminox 8802 Navy Seal 20th Anniversary 8802 Black/Graphite Dial watch. The design of this model is understated compared to some other Luminox models. I am a fan of Luminox, but frankly some models are too garish IMHO. I was looking for a good quality watch that does what I need without confusing me with extras I neither want or use.
This watch doesn’t have the “WOW! Look at me!” that many people prefer. The watch excells in low light and dark conditions. Unlike many other watches, the Luminox doesn’t need an external source for its luminosity. It is however the watch of choice when your buddy can’t see the hands on their own watch and is constantly asking you for the time.
The strap is rubber and is comfortable. I don’t know if a stainless steel bracelet is available.
If I could change a couple of features it would be making the calendar a little bigger (to help my aging eyes), and have a screwdown crown. If your are looking for a watch with all the bells and whistles with multple funtions this isn’t it. Overall however, for a good looking low key everyday watch, Luminox has a winner.

I got my 8802 as a gift for my birthday. It really is a great watch.
I had read a lot of reviews on Luminox watches that stated the gas capsules had come loose inside the face or fallen off. Even some that have said they got water inside the watch.

Luminox 20th Anniversary Edition

This watch is everything you expect from Luminox. I was surprised at how light it is for the size of it. That would be the carbon fibre casing I guess. It is a large dial that is easy to read and the dial glows well in the dark. I like the grey face. Not black but not flashy.

I think I prefer the original strap to the new Evo strap. I find this one gets a bit sweaty when warm. The watch is fairly thick so if you are looking for a slim, low profile watch, you need to buy something else.

All in all a good purchase. A very manly device for weekend wear that should stand up to whatever you get into.

Excellent film about a real actual model’s life on high fashion runways and working with top designers

If you know an aspiring model, ARE an aspiring model or have one in the family, this is a “must see” documentary. But it is also engaging enough to be of interest to anyone who likes a good documentary. Focusing on Sara Ziff, the movie follows her career as a model, including both the best and worst moments. For those who see modeling as pure glamour, fame and fun, this will definitely dispel those myths. Yes, Sara has plenty of exciting times and is thrilled to be meeting top designers and to walk the runways in major fashion shows. She is in awe when she opens a check for $80,000 and another for well over $100,000.

The documentary not only focuses on Sara but also includes interviews with other models. They discuss seamier and more disturbing aspects of modeling, including unethical photographers and the constant pressure to be young and thin. Women who are still young, only 20 or 22 years old, are made to feel “old” when competing against 14 and 16 year olds.

Then there is the money. Some of the young women who come from Europe are honest about their ambitions – yes, they enjoy the attention but they are also making more money than they could possibly achieve otherwise. Modeling may be their only hope of earning enough for an education and it also helps them support their families back in Europe.

Of course, Sara Ziff is at the heart of this documentary and her evolution is fascinating to watch. At times, she bursts into tears after days and weeks with little to no sleep. She becomes run down and her skin breaks out (make-up artists work around that as do hair stylists, camouflaging signs of wear and tear). Sara’s life is often a staggering, disconcerting whirlwind of travel, meetings with designers and rehearsals for shows. She has little down time. She is cut off from her old life and wonders if going back to school might have been a better choice. She is also the first in her family to venture into modeling and her parents are worried about whether this is a good choice for her.

Viewers looking for glamour and an inside look at fashion shows will find plenty to satisfy them. Others may be curious about what the day to day life of a model is like….and there is also plenty about that. Sara is open and honest about the challenges of the modeling life. This is one of the strongest documentaries about modeling I’ve seen – and a sleeper of a movie that deserves far more attention.

Being a supermodel is not always glamorous…

Sara Ziff chronicles her rise to modeling fame in Picture Me: A Model’s Diary, starting at 18. Her then (current?) boyfriend Ole Schell started documenting her modeling efforts – the casting, the shows, the travel, and the parties – and five years later, it really became an extraordinary and intimate glimpse into the world of supermodels.

It is exactly Ziff’s reputation as a successful model that gets other models to open up and share their experiences, about the stress and strain, about drug use and exploitation, about the pressure to be thin, and about life after modeling.

Two issues in particular really jumped out. First, these supermodels are really quite ordinary people when they are not working. Their hair is messed up, their skin is blotchy, they have good days and bad days, and they worry about their future. Second, you get a hint of a dark underbelly of the modeling world. These include the leeches that try to get photos of these models as they are changing, the alcohol and drug use associated with the parties and stress, constant smoking, the financial arrangements with their agencies, and the knowledge that, when they are replaced by younger, thinner models (as they all will be), their lack of an education means they will have to find a sugar daddy in order to maintain their way of life. In fact, you get hints throughout that things may be even worse than the film notes. What has been left out, that we can’t be told until Ziff retires completely from this industry?

But how do you explain all this to a 14 or 16 year old from Russia, picked to be the next supermodel?

Tragic, enlightening, informative, and titillating… expect all of this from Picture Me: A Model’s Diary, by Sara Ziff.

Insight into an exotic world

This is an interesting documentary about real life in an exotic realm, the international whirlwind of high end fashion.

When Sara Ziff, a New York teenager was recruited as a model at age 18, she and her also very young filmaker boyfriend decided to document her adventures, cinema verite style. The resulting film is a bit amateurish but fascinating.

It becomes clear that that the modeling world can be a horrific environment for teen aged girls who are expected to sink or swim unsupervised, often at age 15 or 16 years, away from their families, surrounded by nonstop high pressure, big money, exploitative photographers, sex and drugs. Yikes.

But the more vulnerable ones are those who lack education and choices. Sara was far better prepared than most of the girls to deal with this; she came from a family of a professor and an attorney, a sophisticated New Yorker who grew up in Manhatten to begin with and was never away from home, and had a strong academic background. She was clearly more grounded than most of the others, and I was not surprised she eventually had the good sense to leave it all to return to college.

Other girls shown in the film are really at the mercy of the unhealthy modeling world. One stunning young beauty from Belarus came from real poverty – this was her way out.

Well worth watching. Real life is so much more interesting than fiction.

Great value!!!

I have been using this watch for almost 3 years now. Although there are scratches on the surface it still looks decent and classy. I have very slim wrists so the size is erfect for me. Very simply, understated and yet elegant design with four main hours and the remaining marked by dots, this watch is very easy to read time off and doesn’t give a cheap look that some people mind find with watches that have crystals in them.

It can be a bit tricky if you are trying to adjust the band length by yourself but I managed to do it after experimenting for a while. Very easy to put on and take off which I absolutely love. Haven’t tested its water resistent function but given that I spent around 20 bucks on it and it’s still working perfectly I have nothing to say but “thank you Casio!”

looks good, but cheap finish and feel

Looks like the one my husband broke, but way different in quality- hey I know it’s a cheap watch. It works fine it just feels sub par and the silver face of the watch creates glare making it very hard to tell the time depending on the lighting. Try it with the white face or blue face if you are going with this style.

Gorgeous watch!

I received this watch today and the photo does not do it justice. It’s gorgeous! I’ve been looking for a white metal watch for some time but didn’t want to spend a fortune for it. This watch is chunky, shiny, looks great on the arm and the face is luminous and beautiful. I couldn’t believe the quality for the price. If you’re hesitating at all – don’t! You won’t be disappointed.
